This policy explains what data Clip processes, why, and what choices you have. It applies to clip.app (and all subdomains) and to the Clip browser extension.
Who we are
Clip is operated by [Your business name], [registered office address], the Netherlands. For questions about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
What we collect
When you use the free downloader
- The video URL you paste. We pass it to our extractor to fetch the video; we do not log or persist the URL.
- Server access logs. Standard logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp, request path) kept for up to 14 days, used only for security and debugging.
- The downloaded file is held briefly on our server (typically under 60 seconds) so we can stream it to you, then deleted.
When you upgrade to Pro
- Email address and payment details — collected and held by our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record. We see only your email and your subscription status (active/cancelled). We never see your card number.
- License key — a string we use to verify your Pro entitlement.
Cookies & local storage
Clip uses three categories of cookies. The cookie banner lets you accept or reject each category.
- Strictly necessary. A small
clip_proflag in your browser's localStorage that remembers your activated license so you don't re-enter it on every visit. No way to disable; the site won't work without it. - Analytics. Google Analytics 4 — anonymised page views and aggregate usage. We use it to understand which platforms (YouTube/IG/TikTok) people use most, where downloads fail, and how to improve the service. Off by default until you accept.
- Advertising. Cookies set by our ad network Adsterra, used to show relevant ads on the free tier. Off by default until you accept. Pro users see no ads regardless.
Third parties we share data with
- Lemon Squeezy — billing and license issuance (their privacy policy).
- Google (Analytics) — only after you opt in (their privacy policy).
- Adsterra — only after you opt in to advertising cookies (their privacy policy).
- Railway (our infrastructure host) and Cloudflare (our CDN) process traffic in the normal course of serving the site. They are bound by data-processing agreements.
We do not sell your data, ever, to anyone.
Where your data lives
Server logs and our application data are hosted on Railway (currently EU region). Lemon Squeezy is US-based and stores your billing details there. By upgrading, you consent to this transfer; Lemon Squeezy is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep things
- Server logs: 14 days, then automatically rotated.
- Downloaded files on our server: under 60 seconds.
- Subscription and license records: as long as your account is active, plus up to 7 years after cancellation for tax record-keeping.
- Cookies: see your browser's cookie settings; analytics cookies expire after 14 months.
Your rights
If you live in the EU/EEA, UK or Switzerland, GDPR applies and you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you;
- Have inaccurate data corrected;
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten");
- Restrict or object to processing;
- Data portability — get a machine-readable copy of your data;
- Lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) if you think we've mishandled your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address tied to your account. We respond within 30 days.
Children
Clip is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we'll delete the relevant data.
Security
We use HTTPS everywhere, modern password hashing where applicable (we don't actually store passwords — auth is delegated to your license key), and least-privilege access for our infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to [email protected].
Changes
If we materially change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and — for substantial changes — flag it on the home page for at least 30 days.
